Leaf Gradation Study
The leaf gradation study focused on creating a gradient between different values of leaves. I drove to Flagstaff, AZ to gather different leaves to press in books for a week. Then I organized the leaves by value and arranged them on a 22 cm plane from light on the top to dark on the bottom with a middle value in between. For the center 14 cm plane, I focused on a dark at the top to a lighter red hue on the bottom. The gradients are opposite each other, creating a hard edge with a soft edge in the middle. This increased my sensitivity to slight changes in hue and value.
